Summer Youth Programs FAQs

This is a benefit for full time University employees and their eligible dependents. Dependents must be verified in the WEX Benefits Portal prior to camp registration. Camps are open to children ages rising K  (must be enrolled to begin Kindergarten in the fall of 2024 before camp begins) - rising 6th grade.

No. URHR does not manage any registration information. All registration and camp administration is handled by Little Scholars. If you have a question about a specific registration, withdrawal, or camp session, please contact Little Scholars directly.

Camp registration will open on Monday, February 12 at 8:00 a.m. and will close on Wednesday, February 21 at 5:00 p.m. 

As long as there are open spaces, eligible children will be immediately enrolled upon registration. You will be notified if a camp is full and your dependent is placed on a waitlist.

Summer youth programs are facilitated by Little Scholars and are provided as a benefit to UR employees - there is no cost to employees for their child(ren) to participate in Little Scholars summer youth programs. 

Before care: 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. M-F; $40/week per child

After care: 4:00 p.m. - 5:15 p.m. M-F; $45/week per child

*Employee is responsible for the cost of before and after care. If you are enrolled in the Dependent Care FSA, you may be able to use your DCFSA funds to pay for before and after care!

Please communicate any cancellations directly with Little Scholars as soon as possible. Some cancellation fees may apply. Please see below for information about fees.

Due to the limited capacity of these camps, we ask that you do not register your dependent for a week of camp if they are not able to participate for the full week.

If your dependent is enrolled in a camp and will be unable to attend, you must notify Little Scholars as soon as possible to avoid being charged a cancellation fee.

No fee will be charged if you cancel a camp by Friday, April 26th, 2024.

An administrative fee of $50 per child, per week will be charged if you cancel a camp after Friday, April 26th. This fee will be deducted from the employee’s next paycheck.

If a participant’s guardian does not provide cancellation notice prior to the start of a program and the participant does not attend the program, a no-show fee of $100 per child per week will be deducted from the employee’s next paycheck. Exceptions will be made for a child’s illness only if a legitimate doctor’s note is provided.

Spots for camps are filled upon registration, so we recommend that you register as early as possible. Registration is open for 10 days (new this year!) to help accommodate this load. If a week is at capacity, your dependent will be added to the waitlist and you will be notified if space opens up.

Each child should bring two snacks, a labeled water bottle and lunch. Packed lunches must be non-perishable as there is no access to a refrigerator. 

Yes, please notify Little Scholars directly and in advance to ensure a smooth check-in/out process daily in consideration of staff and other campers. You will need to sign your child out with a valid ID.

This is a tentative schedule: *lunch will be 30 minutes with a 30 minute recess break.

Children will be dropped off in their classrooms in the morning. Families will be notified of the camp location the week before camp starts.

Yes, the information sessions will be recorded so that you can get more answers to any remaining questions you may have. 

Camps are designed for children who will be attending kindergarten in the fall of 2024 through sixth grade in the fall of 2024.

Camps will be split (generally, depending on enrollment) by K, 1-2, 3-4, 5-6. 

No. We want our students to have fun in our camps. We design our curriculum based on developmental age groups.

1. Athletic Summer Camps: These camps are offered through University of Richmond Athletics. These programs are not eligible for tuition remission, nor are they benefits. Some of these programs do offer faculty/staff discounts.
2. SPCS Noncredit Youth Programs: The School of Professional & Continuing Studies offers classes and programs for middle school and high school age students, especially focused on co-curricular topics and skills. Our classes and programs cover test preparation and career planning for college-bound students along with educational enrichment programs for middle and high school students.
