Voluntary Accident Insurance
An accident can happen to anyone at any time. Even with medical coverage, out-of-pocket expenses can quickly add up. Cigna's Voluntary Accident Insurance pays a benefit directly to you for treatments or injuries resulting from a covered accident. It can help you pay for expenses such as rehabilitation, transportation, child care, travel or other out-of-pocket expenses. What you do with the money is all up to you. Coverage continues after your first covered accident and can help provide protection for future covered accidents. Choose the coverage that works best for you and your family. Your monthly cost will depend on the level of coverage you choose.
You will receive additional payments for unforeseen medical expense. This policy's features include:
- No requirements: Enroll annually with no medical evidence.
- Multiple benefits: Receive 80+ benefit payouts, up to 20 follow-up care visits, and off-the-job coverage.
- Cost-effective: You can sign up for this coverage at economical group rates, which means you may pay less for your coverage.
- Convenient: We make it easy. No copays, deductibles, coinsurance or network requirements to worry about and your insurance premiums can be deducted from your paycheck.
- Portable: You can take your coverage with you if you leave your employer (see below).
If you enroll, coverage will be effective the first day of the month following employment. If employment begins on the first of the month, coverage will begin that day.
Enrollment
It is the responsibility of the employee to complete an enrollment application for the University's insurance plans no later than 30 calendar days after his or her employment start date. If an employee fails to comply with this requirement, the University will understand this to mean the employee is declining insurance coverage and may not enroll until Open Enrollment unless there is an eligible life status change. Coverage will be effective the first day of the month following employment. If employment begins on the first of the month, coverage will begin that day.
