Disability Insurance
The University of Richmond is pleased to offer two disability options to all full-time staff and faculty, short-term disability (STD) and long-term disability (LTD).
How to apply:
- Review the disability policies:
- Short-term disability claims: Contact New York Life at 1-888-842-4462 to file a claim if you know you will be out due to an accident or illness for more than 3 days. Cigna will notify the employee, HR, and the employee’s supervisor of the initial filing of the claim.
- If you have not spoken with an associate on the benefits team prior to submitting a STD claim, please contact the URHR Benefits Team at 804-289-8747 to discuss how your pay is impacted while New York Life processes your claim. You will be responsible to enter any sick and vacation in Workday to continue to be paid (Staff) Please review the policy for payment information.
- Long-term disability claims: If an employee is not released to return to work after STD due to illness or injury New York Life will contact the employee and begin to work on a LTD claim. URHR Benefits Team will also be contacted to provide information required to process the LTD claim.
