Your first day
Welcome to campus! Check in with your manager and attend new employee orientation, where you’ll learn about the university, working here, acclimating to the culture, and accessing all our employee benefits. Take some time to explore our campus, grab coffee or lunch with your supervisor, and meet your team. You’ll also get set up with any devices you may need for your role.
Your first week
During your first week, you’ll receive your One Card ID. Your One Card serves as your physical employee ID, granting you access to dining discounts on campus, University buildings, computer labs, SpiderCard accounts, and library resources.
You’ll also be equipped with any devices you may need for your role. Information Services will assist you with the setup. SpiderTechNet, the university’s internal knowledge base, enables you to utilize self-help and how-to articles to find technology solutions independently or to request assistance from Information Services staff.
Your first month
During your first month, you’ll enroll in your benefits, verify any dependents so they can take advantage of applicable perks, and submit any necessary forms due within 30 days of your start date. You’ll also complete required trainings and explore our performance management process. Familiarizing yourself with departmental goals and priorities, you’ll begin building relationships with your team.
Your first 3 months
After your first 90 days, you should have a feedback conversation with your manager to check in. This is an opportunity to explore professional development opportunities, learn about ways to connect with other members of the university community, and familiarize yourself with the university’s strategic goals.
Your first 6 months
By now, we hope you are starting to feel familiar with your role, responsibilities, and campus surroundings. You can begin acquainting yourself with university policies and compliance, and learn about the safety measures we implement to ensure your well-being while you’re here.
Your first year
Congratulations on reaching your first-year milestone at Richmond! You’re applying your skills and knowledge to your role, making informed decisions, contributing to departmental goals, developing effective and meaningful relationships, and understanding how your assignments fit into the university’s mission. URHR is ready to support you in having a meaningful employee experience in an environment where you can thrive.
Continue investing in your professional development with the resources available. Seek and provide feedback from your manager and colleagues to continue growing.
We’re glad you’re here.
