Preventive medications are used for the prevention of conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, asthma, osteoporosis, heart attack, stroke and prenatal nutrient deficiency. You may not have to pay a copay, a coinsurance (the percentage you pay after you meet your deductible) and/or a deductible (the amount you pay before your plan starts to pay) for preventive generic medications. For some, the cost of generic preventive medications may be covered 100% by your pharmacy benefits plan.
