Employment of Relatives

While the University welcomes the hiring of family members, it must be careful to remove any potential conflict of interest in the employment situation. Therefore, no supervisor, department head, or administrative officer will have immediate hiring authority or any supervisory responsibility for a member of their immediate family. For this purpose, immediate family is defined as an individual's spouse, same-sex domestic partner, child, parent (or legal guardian), grandparent, sibling, aunt, uncle, spouse's/same-sex domestic partner's parent or sibling. In addition, an individual may not have immediate hiring authority or supervisory responsibility for their significant others, domestic partners, or any other individual whose personal relationship to the supervisor may cause disruption or a conflict of interest in the workplace.
