Exciting new enhancements to your University Retirement 403(b) Plan

Effective September 24

Please note: This date has changed from the initially announced July 20 launch date.

The University is making changes to the way you interact with TIAA, giving you more flexibility and making saving easier.

Who does this affect?

These changes affect all current employees with a University retirement plan (defined contribution plan).

What's new:

  • Online salary deferral: Now you can make changes to your contributions online. You will no longer submit a paper/PDF Salary Reduction Agreement form to HR. Here’s how:
  1. Log in to your account at any time after September 24, 2021. If you are a first-time user, click "Log in" in the upper-right corner, then follow the prompts to register for online access.
  2. Select "Actions"
  3. Select "Change your contributions"
  4. Elect your contribution either as a percentage of your salary or as a maximum contribution according to the current IRS limits.

The last day to make changes via current the paper/PDF Salary Reduction Agreement form is September 3, 2021.
  • Single Sign-On (SSO): Use your netID and password to access your TIAA account. No need to remember multiple passwords!

  • Self-directed auto increase: Make saving easy! Set up the self-directed automatic increase feature to build your savings faster. Here's how:
  1. Log in to your account at any time after September 24, 2021
  2. Select "Actions"
  3. Select "Change your contributions"
  4. Choose when you would like to automatically increase your contributions, the rate of the increase (percentage), and when you would like to start and stop the automatic increase.

For example, you might choose to increase your contributions by 1% on the same date each year.
  • Maximum contribution election: You will be able to select "Maximum" on the online salary reduction agreement. This will enable you to contribute the IRS maximum every year. TIAA will calculate your contribution limit, monitor your salary deferral limit, reduce your contribution prior to reaching a limit, and stop/restart your contribution at the appropriate time. When you hit your contribution limit for the year, TIAA will automatically notify you.

The 2021 contribution maximum is $19,500 ($26,000 if you are 50+). Find more information here.

  • Employee eligibility: TIAA will directly contact employees who become eligible for the University contributions after September 24, providing step-by-step instructions to get started. Employees should update their preference for communicating with TIAA (USPS mail or email) on the TIAA site.

Quiet Period: September 6-23

Please note: This date has CHANGED. The initially announced July 5-19 Quiet Period is cancelled.

Some functions in your TIAA online account will be unavailable while we work to make these improvements.
