Long Term Care

A.      Coverage

Long Term care is a voluntary insurance policy which provides protection against the high costs associated with long term care facilities such as a nursing home, physical rehabilitation center, or assisted living care facility.  The University's long term care insurance provider is John Hancock.  A policy can be purchased for yourself and spouse or same-sex domestic partner with John Hancock through payroll deduction however the group discounted rate can be extended to multiple family members.

B.       Cost

Costs are based on an employee's individual situation and coverage choices.  A confidential informational quote can be generated on the employee's behalf online through John Hancock.  For information visit http://richmond.jhancock.com

C.       Enrollment

New hires at the University of Richmond are given a 31-day window in which they can apply for long term care insurance through John Hancock and have a guaranteed issue.  Guaranteed issue means that pre-existing medical conditions cannot prohibit you from attaining coverage.  Guaranteed issue is only provided to the employee, family members applying for coverage will need to fill out a medical questionnaire.

Employees can apply for coverage at any time throughout the year but will need to complete a medical questionnaire if they apply outside of the 31-day new hire grace period.
