Employment Verification

The University of Richmond uses The Work Number® to provide automated employment and income verifications on our employees (faculty and staff). The Work Number service is used when you apply for a loan, need a reference check, lease an apartment, or any other instance where proof of employment or income is needed.

How to Use The Work Number

For Proof of Employment

Provide the person needing proof of your employment with the following information:

  • Your social security number
  • The University of Richmond employer code: 14541
  • The Work Number access options:

Creating a Salary Key for Income Verification

A salary key is a six-digit number that allows one-time access to your salary information. If a verifier requests a salary key from you:

From theworknumber.com:

  1. Choose "I am an Employee" from the far left
  2. Click on enter site
  3. Enter the University of Richmond employer code: 14541
  4. If this is the first time you are entering the site, you will have to create a User Account. Your USER ID is your 8 digit URID#.
  5. Your PIN  is the first four digits of your social security number + your two digit month of birth + your two digit day of birth
  6. Select "Prove your employment with a salary key."
  7. Select "Create a salary key" and prepare to write down the six-digit number
  8. Provide the person requesting the salary key with the following information:
    • Your social security number
    • The University of Richmond employer code: 14541
    • Your salary key (from Step 7)
    • The Work Number access options for verifiers:
      • theworknumber.com
      • 1-800-367-5690
